Il Maestro Petre Sbarcea è stato per me un punto di riferimento molto importante negli anni 90. Conosciuto durante il concorso Dinu Niculescu a Brasov nel 1991, è nato subito un rapporto di stima e di amicizia del quale sono stato molto onorato negli anni. E’ stato grazie alla sua fiducia che ho potuto dirigere all’Opera Romana di Cluj e alla Filarmonica di Sibiu, città nella quale mi ha generosamente ospitato nella sua casa. Ero all’inizio e sono stato fortemente beneficiato dalla sua amicizia e fiducia. I suoi consigli mi hanno aiutato per tutta la vita. Le cose che diceva erano essenziali e vere. Così come la sua arte, vera e sincera, si basava sulla sua memoria prodigiosa e sulla sua profonda cultura ed era all’antitesi di vuote e inutili esteriorità. Un uomo raro e prezioso che ha dato tantissimo a diverse generazioni di musicisti e ascoltatori, che lo hanno ricambiato con l’assoluto rispetto della sua figura professionale e tanto affetto per l’uomo. Sono commosso nel condividere il pianto con i tanti che hanno goduto della sua presenza in questo mondo, ma mi sento fortunato e voglio custodire la sua memoria finché potrò. Un forte abbraccio alla famiglia e a tutti i musicisti che lo hanno conosciuto.
Maestro Petre Sbarcea was a very important figurehead for me in the 1990s. I met him at the Dinu Niculescu Competition in Brasov in 1991, and a relationship of mutual respect and friendship was immediately forged, a relationship I have been deeply honored by over the years. It was thanks to his trust that I was able to conduct at the Roman Opera in Cluj and the Sibiu Philharmonic, a city where he generously hosted me in his home. I was just starting out, and I greatly benefited from his friendship and trust. His advice helped me throughout my life. What he said was essential and true. Just as his art, true and sincere, was based on his prodigious memory and profound culture, it was the antithesis of empty and useless externals. A rare and precious man who gave so much to several generations of musicians and listeners, who reciprocated with absolute respect for his professional figure and great affection for the man. I’m moved to share his grief with the many who enjoyed his presence in this world, but I feel fortunate and want to cherish his memory for as long as I can. A deep embrace to his family and all the musicians who knew him.
